Utopia – Entelechy (or on the sense of duty)

SYNOPSIS
“Entelechy (or on the sense of duty) is a spoken word song written and performed by artist, poet and performer Anna Utopia Giordano with music composed by multimedia indipendent artist Un Artista Minimalista. Entelechia is contained in Utopia’s first album “”Fogli d’ombra”” released on March 19, 2021. The text, conceived by the author as a hybrid between poetry and script, contains suggestions from philosophy, literature and science, intertweaving current global issues with classical images of ancient Greece.
The videoclip of Entelechy (or on the sense of duty) is inspired by the tradition of son et lumière night shows. The video concept was developed and conceived by Anna Utopia Giordano and Carlo Alleva, an Italian designer and director who has been entrusted with the direction of Entelechy.
In particular, the theme of Entelechy (or on the sense of duty) concerns the value of life, how every living being is part of the same unique unbreakable network and the debate on migrants, a very important issue in Italy.

The Other Moon

“Ιnspired by Oscar Wilde’s theatre play Salome (1891), the film tells the story of the girl who became the Moon, posing repetitively one single question: What do you see when you look at her? The film was commissioned by SIFF and the audiovisual materials are sourced by personal home movies, the Cimatheque – Alternative Film Centre in Cairo, the Rigopoulos Collection at the Historical Archive of Syros – GAK, Syros Sound Meetings and Nasa’s Video and Image Library.

The Oneiroid

SYNOPSIS
“This video is the first part of the series starring Oneiroid, a worm-like robot with an AI-driven personality. There is no CGI, no post-processing; it’s a good old honest documentary even if the video does not look like one. This video star is the robot controlled by the artificial neural network processing the visual input from its camera eye. AI controls every movement of the Oneiroid’s body, and at the same time, we can observe how this AI sees the surrounding world through the interface that demonstrates the robot’s vision on the external screen. We watch how his biased perception makes a lady scientist look almost like another worm-like creature.
Unknown is scary. The unnamed unknown is even scarier. We give it a name; we call it Oneiroid, but does it really help? Do we better understand its nature? Is it a result of natural mutation or a human mistake? Can we coexist, and if yes, who poses more danger to whom? Very similar questions worry people for more than a year now: pandemia has changed the way we live and our relationships with everything other and alien. Oneiroid embodies the alienness, looking strange and perhaps dangerous. In the world of social distancing and do-not-touch behavior, the girl caressing Oneiroid breaks the rules and seems almost criminal. This scene makes us experience tactile sensations of slimy skin under our palms; of course, we identify ourselves with a neat scientist. But what if we are wrong, if we are aliens occasionally caressed by a passing scientist? Why does the scientist care about the robot’s memory, and how personal and emotional can the robot’s memory be? Can Oneiroid be missing a human touch — and why in the final seconds we feel compassion towards the robo-monster left alone?”

In TESTFILM #1 Telcosystems explore the creative possibilities of the Digital Cinema Package (DCP) – the new global infrastructure for film projection in cinemas. By 2015, this digital standard had completely replaced analogue film projection around the world. Could one upset the default behavior of the DCP system and unearth its artistic potential? (A practice that has been an integral part of the history of cinema.) Or is the system designed to exclude any possibility of human intervention? If so, what happens to the history and the future of experimental cinema and the renegades who refuse to play by the rules?

Tenjinsan Textiles

SYNOPSIS
This is a stop motion animation of antique kimono textiles from the Nishijin district in Kyoto. It was filmed on super 8 in Kyoto by Michael Lyons and Haruka Mitani. The soundtrack was created by Michael Lyons and Palle Dahlstedt using the Octopus analogue audio-visual interface. The synthesizer follows visual input from the film, so that the textile motifs may act as a visual score for the sounds. The film is the outcome of our desire to listen to the kimono patterns.

“Smoke is a reflection during COVID about our concept of space.
How do we feel it when we are forced to use space in a different way?
How are our feelings changing, the way we also perceive time in the same space?
I titled this work Smoke because it is the image that comes to my mind when I think about this moment:
symbolically it represents the unclear way we look now at the world, it is a temporary vision but it changes the way we perceive everything.
Which kind of projections do we have about us in relation to our environment: are our longings changing? Or are we the same people with a different consciousness?
Who are we in this new constellation?”

A mix of film footage and animation, which has been digitally alienated and abstracted from the original and dramatized with a sound collage.
The major thoughts that flowed in for the visualization, is the idea of ​​a flicker of electrical discharges and a gloomy representation of a nocturnal bombing.
The video is inspired by the poem “”Silver”” by Walter de la Mare and a dark interpretation of it.”
